OUR PERSPECTIVE

Normal heart function relies on the smooth performance of three distinct components:

  • the cardiac conduction system
  • the coronary vessels
  • the myocardium

Disruptions in the first lead to arrhythmias, in the second to coronary artery disease with ischemia, and in the third to cardiomyopathies and/or heart failure. Often, when one component is affected, it can impact the other two or cause them to manifest symptoms.

At our Avlona and Nea Erythraia Cardiology Practices, we possess the knowledge and house all necessary diagnostic tools to simultaneously evaluate these three (3) different components for each patient, followed by a comprehensive approach based on both the general medical and specific cardiological history on an individual basis. When further specialized diagnostic tests are required, these are performed by referral to our distinguished, long-standing associate specialist.

Additionally, cardiovascular diseases are evaluated by considering the continuous spectrum of their long-term progression. For each patient, their current status is determined along with the disease progression trends, while effective measures are taken for timely intervention to halt the progression. Interventions involve prevention, daily lifestyle choices, pharmacological treatment, and, occasionally, cardiac devices or invasive therapies in collaboration with tertiary centers.

Patients are thoroughly informed about all modern diagnostic procedures as well as pharmacological, interventional, and surgical treatments that could be applicable in their individual case, enabling them to jointly reach an optimal diagnosis or treatment decision with their treating physician (informed shared decision).
